Sharing Web Resources

In 2016, I was taught that “resources enrich professional lives” (2011). Many childhood professionals use the information they research, provided by other sites, to educator other early educators of the present and current events in their field.

In light of these resources, there were many sites that were presented and referred to me. Out of many, the one that touched on the most concerning issues of today was “Save the Children”; and with that I subscribed to their page.

Within the newsletters received, they speak about “transforming the lives of children around the world” (Save the Children, n.d.). It’s informed me that there was a 49% decline in 5-under mortality rate.

Amongst the pages of their website, it also speaks on the advocacy for education within our country; and how actress, Jennifer Garner, has been working along side their organization as an advocate for early education programs. Together, Save the Children and Garner, “work to ensure that each child has access to quality education” (Save the Children, n.d.).

Save the Children’s focus, as described above, not only touch on the educational aspect needed but also the health, protection, gender equality, policy and advocacy of children worldwide.

Getting Ready—Expanding Horizons and Expanding Resources

As I begin to explore websites and articles focusing on local and global issues in early childhood, my goal is to become more knowledgeable and understanding of the perspectives others as it pertains to the issues and trends in the early learning education setting. With this expansion of knowledge on these issues in my field, opportunities will be made available to formulate and come up with various strategies to bring about change.

In researching the available resources and various website that relate to my field, two sites were presented and stood out to me. The Global Fund for Children and Save the Children; where both foundations have missions where they “are focused on improving the lives of young children and their families worldwide” (Laureate Education, Inc. (Executive Producer). (2011). Issues and trends in the early childhood field. https://class.content.laureate.net/)

Global Fund for Children: Partnering to build a world where all children and youth are safe, strong, and valued.
Save the Children: Working together to champion the rights of children.

As I delve into these two sites; it’s “best to know specific ways in which each organization supports the early childhood community and the resources it offers to those in their community” (Laureate Education, Inc. (Executive Producer). (2011). Issues and trends in the early childhood field. https://class.content.laureate.net/)

In preparation for this blog and after researching and the two organizations, I was drawn to the organization, Save the Children. Why? Well, I’m glad you asked. One of their commitment goals is to give “all children the best chance for the future they deserve – a healthy start in life, the opportunity to learn and protection from harm” (Laureate Education, Inc. (Executive Producer). (2011). Issues and trends in the early childhood field. https://class.content.laureate.net/)

Another reason I was drawn to them is because many people love to go on Mission Trips to foreign countries but there are those children who need the help right in our own backyard. An elder from my church always says, “In order to see the change we want to see, the change must begin with me.”

Additionally, this organization also provides other ways to help the cause by volunteering your time, if you don’t have the monetary means to support their mission. You can also fundraise, participate in upcoming events, and advocate on behalf of the children.

Some other websites and other resources that can be beneficial to edcuctors and those in the early education field are:

Another favorite would be Zero to Three: National Center for Infants, Toddlers, and Families. Their mission “is to ensure that all babies and toddlers have a strong start in life. At ZERO TO THREE, we envision a society that has the knowledge and will to support all infants and toddlers in reaching their full potential” (Zero to Three, http://zerotothree.org)

I definitely look forward to learning more about this organization and what they offer and how they can service communities in need of support. And if there’s anything I can do to help them get closer to bridging the gap, I’m willing to help were I can best serve.

An Introduction

Welcome to my blog; my page. On this site I share my thoughts, views, and issues within the EC World.

My name is Allison Chung-Curling and I’m currently a graduate student at Walden University.

About Me:

  • I am a mother of two boys, 9yrs and 6yrs.
  • I work with children ages birth to 3 that on the spectrum and behavioral challenges.

In my spare time, I like to make plant-based soap and body products. I like to sew, bake, and help out where needed.

To get a better understanding of why I decided to blog:

  • For starters, I’m always on the computer. I enjoy typing out my thoughts and having people give feedback on how I can better the/my community.
  • Some of the topics that I plan to talk and touch on are: Issues within the EC World. What are the barriers that children, parents, and family face on a day to day basis?
  • Through my blog, I would love to bridge the gap between teacher, child, parent[s], other family members, and members in the/my community.
  • Throughout the next year, I would hope to accomplish a better understanding of how each view and perspective from parent, child, and teacher can help solve the barriers and issues that are faced. And, as we learn, my hope is to evolve as new information is brought forth.

As you read and learn more about the contexts of this matter, my prayer is that we can grow together to solve and bridge the gap that we tend to overlook.
